2015 games for Nintendo systems

People are talking at the moment about 3 possible titles that could hit Wii U

Trine 3
Project X Zone 2
COD BO3

We may get Trine 3 and X Zone 2, but getting COD is very unlikely for me. I will keep no expectations.

(Reminds me that I really need to finish Trine 2.)

I'm hopeful for BO3. Treyarch can probably make a Nintendo port in their sleep at this point.

How many big games have been recently delayed (including Zelda U)?

  1. Tom Clancy's The Division: Late 2014 to 2015
  2. The Witcher 3: Late 2014 to May 2015
  3. Batman: Arkham Knight: October 2014 to June 2015
  4. Uncharted 4: Late 2015 to 2016
  5. Quantum Break: 2015 to 2016
  6. Homefront: The Revolution: 2015 to 2016
  7. Kingdom Come: December 2015 to 2016
  8. Zelda U: 2015 to 2016

Both Paper Mario and Animal Crossing have been on Nintendo's home consoles since the N64, so I guess we should indeed expect the sequels on Wii U. If those are the big holiday titles, I won't be excited.

I know Xenoblade Chronicles X will be a holiday title, but it's not big enough, so what else ? I mean, now that Zelda is out of the picture, what else can be big enough for a Nintendo holiday ? Mario ? Nope Miyamoto said it's coming on a next gen console. Mario Kart ? 2014. Smash ? 2014... The ONLY think I could see is a remake of a huge game. My guess : Twilight Princess or Mario Galaxy in HD, 2 of the best selling core games on the Wii.

I'm also expecting a 2D Metroid announcement, but I think it will be for the 3DS. It seems Atlus retweeted the the Direct announcement. So FE x SMT ? I don't want to believe it...
Did Miyamoto actually say there won't be a 3D Mario for Wii U? Mario World 3D was incredibly underwhelming for me, so that's a big dud for me.

As for a replacement for Zelda... Retro Studios' project seems like a candidate. Perhaps Metroid? Some type of canceled third party game that's been picked up and revived? Beyond that, there's tons of franchises I've interrested.

Actually, no, he did not say there wouldn't be another 3D Mario game for the Wii U. His statement was regarding big iteration changes that we would see on the 3D Mario game that we'd see on the next console. Nothing was said about a 3D Mario game not coming to the Wii U.

Yes he pretty much said it to the Guardian during an interview last December. Here is the exact quote :

"I think that maybe when we release the next hardware system, you can look forward to seeing Mario take on a new role or in a new game"

So it's pretty clear to me that if you're wasting for a Mario Galaxy like Mario game, you'll have to wait for the next console... Maybe we'll get a Mario Galaxy HD collection or a Mario Sunshine Remaster, but I won'y expect a big 3D Mario game on Wii U...

Actually that article was very interesting because it was the first time where Nintendo CLEARLY said they were working - already - working a next gen system actively. Here is the quote :

"While we’re busy working on software for the Wii U, we have production lines that are working on ideas for what the next system might be"

Fast forward few months and you have Iwata announcing NX and Zelda Wii U delayed until next year...

Miyamoto-san's quotes make it sound like the next big Mario evolution will be on new hardware, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a 3D World part 2 or something, with all of the leftover levels they couldn't get around to. EAD probably has lots of "9.5" material that wasn't quite the "10" they usually put out.

Im giving BO3 a 75% chance of coming through at this point, mostly because its Treyarch doing the work. It wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo didnt cut a deal for it either. No royalty fees is certainly something Nintendo could offer to entice them. I also suspect that the Nintendo team at Treyarch became the 360/PS3/Wii U team last year. BO3's core development will certainly center around the PS4 and X1, so instead of giving the team Advanced Warfare to port to Wii U, they have instead been porting BO3 to 360/PS3/Wii U. Seeing as how they have experience dealing this type of work, it makes sense to me. Who knows, but I am optimistic at this point.

I'm personally expecting Super Mario Galaxy 3 to be the next Mario game and for it to be the Wii U's swan song (or for it to be delayed at the last moment for the next home console as a launch title). A sequel coming to the Wii U would fit in with "Mario tak[ing] on a new role" next gen.

IMO the bonus (especially the last) worlds of 3D World was screaming that they aren't done with the Super Mario Galaxy series quite yet.

I'm not so sure there even is a dedicated team for ports anymore. The way they described it during the Wii years was that a few people at Treyarch basically made the ports in their spare time, and that ramped up through BO and MW3 to having an actual team. I'd guess that team was simply integrated back into Treyarch, and they're mainly back to leaving a few dozen people to clean up ports again in their spare time (Wii-era Treyarch wouldn't have left a broken party system in BO2). But they still have Wii U-ready code sitting around, so I hope they use it.
IMO the bonus (especially the last) worlds of 3D World was screaming that they aren't done with the Super Mario Galaxy series quite yet.
Good point. It's not like EAD was ever really hampered by having the Mushroom Kingdom as a backdrop, but going to space gives them license to literally do anything with their level design. And 3D World's coda shows that the flame still burns for that.

Family oriented games as Guitar Hero, Lego, Just Dance or Skylanders, will come on the Wii U. Because despite the limited installed base, those franchise would still sell very decently on the Wii U.

@Odo , I guess that's a decent list for the 3DS in 2015, but it's REALLY not that impressive to be honest... The 2 biggest games of the year pretty much came out already in some ways ( Majora's Mask and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate ).

Nintendo will definitely unveil new games at E3, but will we get something as significant as a new Mario, Pokemon, Animal Crossing or Zelda on 3DS later this year ? I'm not sure...

I don't think there is a better timing for a 2D Metroid game than holiday 2015...

I guess 3DS is strong enough to have in the future:

- a new Pokemon
- a new 3DS Zelda
- a new 3D Mario
- a Metroid
- a few more Atlus RPGs

3DS is not dead yet. A few good surprises will come out on E3.

@Odo , I'm not sure even half of the TBD games above are coming this year. I REALLY don't see SMT x Fire Emblem ( in Japan maybe ), Project Guard, Devil's Third and Project Giant Robot coming out this year to be honest... Maybe we'll have other games, but not sure about those ones.

Legend of Kay I am actually intrigued with. I didnt have a PS2, and this looks like a good throwback to when 3d adventure games were a thing, and I would assume this was a good one if its better a remake.

@Odo, how many games you think you will add on your list post E3 ?

I bet 10 ( Wii U and 3DS of course ) :).
Yes, I'd say 10, it's a reasonable number if we consider both systems.

However we know that some of the games they'll announce will be for 2016 and there are lots of TBD games to confirm too.

I'm not sure about the 2016 games. A Nintendo representative said that E3 will be mainly of games coming in 2015 :

As Mr. Aonuma announced, The Legend of Zelda game for Wii U is no longer targeted as a 2015 release. Rather than sticking to a specific schedule, the team wants to make this the most complete and the best game it can possibly be. The new launch timing has not yet been determined. Because we’d like to focus on developing the game, we aren’t planning on showing it at this year’s E3, where we will be highlighting games launching in 2015. We will let you know when we’re ready to share more specifics.
Maybe they changed their mind or they want to surprise us...

Platinium will unveil a new game.

Rumors has it possibly a Nintendo game...

Could it be Starfox ?
Definite possibility.

One thing that was dug up not too long ago, though, that I think could be interesting...

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/09/0...a-bayonetta-spin-off-for-3ds-starring-jeanne/

A Platinum 3DS game would honestly make sense. They haven't done a portable game since Infinite Space, it'd be cheaper and take less manpower, the install base is bigger on 3DS, and Kamiya-san wants to do it. It's still probably unlikely, but an interesting little nugget of info.

But.

Be. Still. My. Heart.
https://twitter.com/platinumgames/status/608800828279775233
I've just crossed out Project Cars for Wii U since it's become a joke!
:sigh: It really has.

Zoom out in the history of console game development. If a dev had said, even five years ago, "the game is doing everything we've thrown at it, but it's stuck at 23 fps and we need to hit 30 fps," people would've rightfully thought we were talking about a small bump in the road. You knock a couple cars out of the big races, simplify some weather effects, dial back your "tire physics," whatever. But now, "we just can't compromise anything for 7 extra frames" is a viable excuse.

...so long as it's a Nintendo device, of course.
