Same here really. I don't like buying movies digitally, nor music for that matter, although I make some exceptions for both. Over the last few yesrs, I've learned to trim out the excess on my HDD and get rid of the stuff that I truly won't miss, or which I can easily find online. Netflix, and Amazon Instant have provided a ton of movie and TV show content that I haven't bought physical media in months. If it's a movie I absolutely have to have, I'll get it on Blu-Ray, but for most movies I can always watch it via streaming.
Between all my Top Gear vids and other assorted videos, my music and movies and TV shows on iTunes, and my Photos, that only adds up to around 400GB worth of data. I also don't have a Gaming PC, so I don't have dozens and dozens of games on a HDD to keep track of.
Space is incredibly cheap these days, but at some point I thought to myself of what I honestly need to have on HDDs. And honestly, there's not much. Even my stuff on iTunes, most of it is either tied to my account, or I have physical media for it. I also have an entire back-up of my iTunes library, as well as a full back-up on my Macbook Pro (via Time Machine). I have one HDD that's dedicated to backing up my PS3, one to back up my MBP, and the other one is for iTunes, and all my photos and videos. They are 250GB, 500GB, and 750GB, respectively. I also have another 250GB 3.5" HDD which I use for my Wii U that came from my old Gaming PC. Needless to say, I have more HDD space than what I use currently.
One last thing I plan to do with my aging MBP is upgrade to a SSD, and then in about a year or two when I finally upgrade to a newer Mac, I'll take that SSD and put it into my future Gaming PC.
