I really hate the character design for this game, and I'm not expecting to like the story. But the world design, the monster design, and the gameplay all look great. Really seems like the return to the Final Fantasy games of the PS1 and SNES era, especially because of the "airship" that affects how you move in the overworld. I've gone from mildly interested to hyped with reservations.

But seriously, fuck that character design. Imagine if a Mexican developer made their version of Final Fantasy, and all their main characters looked like they were taken out directly form those shitty soap operas (telenovelas).



Or how about those Indian soap operas?


This is the equivalent of that, but Japanese.

-Once this game is finished, they'll think about porting to PC.

The director went on to say that, at one point in Final Fantasy XV's development, he told the team, "We're not special. Wake up."

"I realized that when Final Fantasy XV news was made public--this wasn't only inside the company. Everyone has FF disease."

Finally, Tabata said he could not stress enough that Final Fantasy needs to "modernize" or else it might fade away.

"At this point, if the series didn't modernize, I think it could've been done for," he said.

This isn't the first time Tabata has offered some frank comments on the state of the Final Fantasy brand. He said in April 2016 that, when he took over as director on the project, one of his first decisions was to conduct an analysis of the current state of the Final Fantasy brand in Japan. The results were not promising. Tabata said the franchise, at the time, was considered a "dying IP that had already peaked."

Why go on with Final Fantasy XV if that was the case? Tabata said he believes fans continue to have faith in the developer to make something great.

"One thing I've felt from fans is that they are disappointed in the current state of Final Fantasy, but still have hope in terms of where the brand could go," he explained at the time.

Final Fantasy XV launches in September 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. APC version could come later, but nothing has been decided."

Damn, I'm the exact opposite. I'm not too big on Kingdom Heart's gameplay. I play that game more for it's charm and interesting mixture of Disney's IPs than anything else. However, with Final Fantasy, I play it more for the gameplay and nice appealing visuals. It's got the graphics down fine but everything else? Well...can't say I'm happy

"Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy (Japanese: ファブラ ノヴァ クリスタリス ファイナルファンタジー Hepburn: Fabura Nova Kurisutarisu Fainaru Fantajī?) is a series of games within the Final Fantasy video game franchise, developed and published by Square Enix. While featuring various worlds and different characters, each Fabula Nova Crystallis game is ultimately based on and expands upon a common mythos focusing around important crystals tied to deities. The series title translates from Latin as 'The New Tale of the Crystal'. The original titles in the series were handled by Square Enix's 1st Production Department, with each development team given the freedom to adapt the mythos to fit the context of a game's story.

The series, originally announced in 2006 as Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII, currently consists of six games across multiple platforms. Final Fantasy XIII, designed as the series' flagship title, was released in 2009. The creative forces behind the series include many developers from previous Final Fantasy titles, including Shinji Hashimoto and Motomu Toriyama. The mythos was conceived and written by Kazushige Nojima. The first games made for the series were Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XV (as Versus XIII), with Final Fantasy Type-0 (as Agito XIII) coming later. All three games went through delays. After XIII and Type-0's releases, their respective teams used ideas and concepts from development to create additional games. For later games, other studios have been brought in to help with aspects of development.

As of 2015, five titles have been released in the series, and two further titles, Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy Type-0 Online, are in production. Individual games have generally received a positive reception, although opinions have been more mixed over various aspects of the three XIII games. Reception of the mythos' use in the released games has also been mixed: while some critics called it confusing or too similar to the lore of the main series, others were impressed by its scope and use. The series is complemented by works in related media, including companion books, novelizations, and manga."

I'm excited for this game.
I wasn't a fan of XCX at all. Got boring after 20 hours or so. I'll come back to it one day though. But Final Fantasy is more my jam, and so is Persona. Looking forward to those 2 JRPGs this year hopefully we get both.

Final Fantasy XV Gets Lots of Information on Gameplay and More; Graphics? “Wait for E3”

During a community-driven Active Time Report broadcast, Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata provided quite a lot of information on gameplay and more.

You can read a recap below.

  • You can’t climb in the game.
  • There’s something similar to a skill tree to learn abilities.
  • The game is not an open world in the sense that you can go absolutely anywhere you like, but the field is very vast and as you proceed with the story, the variety of places you can go to increases.
  • About difficulty, your ability with action games isn’t critical. Since it’s a Final Fantasy RPG, the action is designed to be enjoyed by a wide variety of gamers and operation is pretty simple. It’s also designed so that you learn how to control it little by little. There will be difficulty options, and a certain twist that we’ll hear more about at E3.
  • The next episode of Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV anime will come around the time frame of E3.
  • Tabata-san can’t reveal all the weapons yet, as the Armiger is related to the story and it would be a spoiler.There are seven weapon types, but each type has a lot of variety within it.
  • There won’t be a gallery mode at release. They might plan something afterwards. A photo mode is not planned.
  • The Regalia (Noctis’ car) is faster than Chocobos.
  • The man with the main hood that appears in older trailers will be in the game even if he hasn’t been showcased lately.
  • Tabata-san was asked about the impression that the graphics have been downgraded from Episode Duscae to Platinum Demo, and he said to please wait for E3.
  • You can’t drive the boat on your own, but you can rotate the camera.
  • It’s possible to freely save the game anywhere.
  • You can go back and check previously visited places before the last boss.
  • You can fast travel to places you have camped at.
  • When you obtain the flying Regalia, if you crash at landing it’s game over, and you’ll go back to before the flight. Unlike conventional airships, there’s actual gameplay related to taking off and landing. Taking off is not particularly difficult, but you need to be careful on landing. It could be tense, but it won’t be that hard.
  • You can increase the performance of the chocobo by feeding him different food, increasing for instance speed and stamina for the next day.
  • Square Enix would like a PS4 bundle, but it’ll depend on Sony.
We also learn that the next Active Time Report will happen on June 13th, just before E3.

I'm excited for this game.
I wasn't a fan of XCX at all. Got boring after 20 hours or so. I'll come back to it one day though. But Final Fantasy is more my jam, and so is Persona. Looking forward to those 2 JRPGs this year hopefully we get both.
Persona is on my wishlist too.

I wasn't excited about this FF, but I'm starting to.

I'm watching a lot of videos about FFXV. I still would like to play it, but .. I'm not that excited. In many ways gameplay looks rather generic.
