Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is the follow-up to Playtonic’s 2017 Yooka-Laylee, though the two don’t share a ton in common beyond characters and an art aesthetic. Impossible Lair plays like a 2D platformer in the vein of Donkey Kong Country, whereas Yooka-Laylee was definitively a revival of the Banjo-Kazooie 3D exploration style. Each genre has its fans, and it’s not always a perfect 1:1 overlap, but plenty of people are still psyched for Impossible Lair.
