Japanese fans name Kojima 2015's MVP
By Allegra Frank on May 10, 2016 at 1:30p @LegsFrank

"Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu announced its top titles of 2015 today, five months into 2016. It's never a bad time to be reminded of some of last year's best games, however, as well as its most notable figures. Among the award winners are Hideo Kojima, the former Konami staffer and creator of Metal Gear Solid.

Kojima attended the ceremony to pick up his MVP Award in person, as seen on his personal Twitter account.

Along with a bouquet of flowers, the veteran designer received a plaque, which he later showed off in a tweet.

The Metal Gear Solid creator is a longtime attendee of the Famitsu Awards. Last year, however, neither Kojima nor anyone else from Konami attended the annual ceremony, as reported by Kotaku. Despite games like P.T. and Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroeswinning awards for excellence and innovation, representatives from Konami declined to pick up the trophies.

This was last April, when drama around Kojima's impending departure began to swell. To relive that turbulent time in the creative's long career at Konami, check out our recap."

"This year's return is one of several award shows that Kojima has attended in 2016, however. Kojima also received his Hall of Fame honor at this year's DICE Awards during the event itself. When his last game at Konami, Metal Gear Solid 5, won an award at the same show, he didn't go on stage to receive it, however. He also wasn't present at The Game Awards 2015. Although Kojima was meant to attend, host Geoff Keighley said on Twitter later that night that Kojima's former boss Konami prevented the designer from picking up an award for the game at the show.

The rest of the award winners include a few names that have appeared on many similar lists, like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Bloodborne and Fallout 4. Overall, though, there are far more local fan favorites —Splatoon picked up the top prize for Game of the Year — and Japan-only titles, such as Yo-Kai Watch Busters and the upcoming Dragon Quest 6: Journey of the Cursed King remake on Nintendo 3DS.

Here's several more of the winning games, as well as some of the companies and characters Famitsu also celebrated."

I fully support the win for Splatoon. Hard to believe it was only about this time last year when it came out.

And yay for Super Mario Maker getting the excellence award and both games winning the Innovation Prize - well deserved.

Splatoon and Super Mario Maker are the two games that took up the most of my time in 2015. Splatoon almost daily from May through September, and Super Mario Maker from September to Christmas. Something about each kept me coming back. Whether it was me competing against others or competing against myself to just get better, I'm not sure. But I had a blast with both.

I don't understand why Kojima got an MVP award. He got fired, and his last game is one that longtime fans of the franchise are salty about. I honestly don't see how anyone other than Iwata should have gotten the award, but I guess the voters really wanted to spite Konami by voting for Kojima.

I think Iwata would have made a fitting MVP choice as well....

Though I'm not against Kojima getting it either I guess....

An Iwata tribute regardless would have been nice doe....

R.I.P. Iwata san....
