Truthfully, I don't really care about your icons, I just want to see what you guys use as background images on your desktops! So either way is fine by me. I'll just show you the image I use. I made it a while ago:

There, I showed you mine, now you show me yours!

My desktop cycles between a whole lot of images, even though I know it drains the battery. I have a whole bunch of National Geographic images of ecosystems and wildlife behaviour as well as biological images on a microscopic scale, such as cells and microbes. Some days I'll have an underwater forest filled with tadpoles, sometimes some sexy cell reproduction (cell porn is the only porn you can get away with on your desktop without looking sleazy) and other times I'll have an angry ass ape screaming at the screen.

This is my favourite background in rotation (obviously bigger):

Icons stand out nicely, it has great texture, and it's incredibly topical considering the xbone. :p

You guys have some interesting desktops. I prefer simpler images for the most part, so photos don't generally work for me. Also, @GaemzDood I'm pretty sure you have to burn your computer now and bury the ashes several feet underground.

My desktop is a great image representation of me. It's emotionally engaging™.

am i the only one with dual monitors?
I did for awhile, but one was older and gave out on me. So now I have one. If everything goes as planned though, one day in the not too distant future I'll have another.

@thMightyMe i just got that phone on saturday (same color, even). it's fucking awesome dude. big step up from my htc inspire.
lol... I got it on saturday too

I love it to pieces... but there are some annoyances... I wish there was a menu button, I wish it was running 4.2.2 and had lockscreen widgets and photosphere (4.2.2 features)... and it doesn't connect with my computer properly.. it wants all this f'n software to interface and just doesn't work right.. I just want to f'n plug it in and treat it like an external harddrive and drag and drop and manage files as I will

but as for those negatives... I hear the next update will fix the menu problem.. apparently by replacing the google now on a home long press to menu.... though I like having google now on a long press so hopefully they let me put it on a back button long press or just active the HTC logo area of the capacitive strip to act as a menu button... while I don't have widgets on the lock screen it does give me notifications and when I play music it brings up a music player on there... plus we are supposed to be getting 4.2.2 this month in an update and 4.3.2 by the end of the year... I got around the not hooking up properly to my computer issue by using drop box, and my friend says there is a trick to get around all the software install crap

now the good... at first I was annoyed about blink feed, but I moved it off to the side and it just doesn't bother me there, inf act I have actually come to enjoy it... quickly browsing my twitter along with tech/android/gaming/tv news is nice it is really cool having it all mixed up together... I just wish there were more options... google + for instance.. oir if I could plug in news feeds from specific sites like IGN or nitnendo enthusiast.... the camera is amazing.. the lowlight shots absolutely stunning, and I prefer the HTC interface for the camera to the stock google one (except I want photosphere), the sound is great for a phone, so f'n loud and about as non-tinny as can be... the screen is beautiful, the thing is fast there is like no lag at all, I love the app drawer.. I don't need folders on my home screens because I have everything organized in folders in my drawer... though I wish it kept folders across the top and displayed what was in them for the rest of the screen and could then scroll within those sections

I got pissed off at some aspects of the phone on my first night with it, but by the end of the second day I absolutely adored it

^ yeah, my last droid had a menu button, and adjusting to using teh phone without it took a little while. those 3 little squares could be anywhere depending on what app you're using. so that's a down side for me as well.
i really don't know as much about android as you, so it's hard for me to comment on the different versions. if you say upgrades are coming though, i'll assume that's a good thing haha
i'm digging the blink feed for sure. i wish it was more customizable or in-depth as far as where your sources are coming from, but if it's a successful interface then maybe that will come with time. i haven't had a second of trouble getting pc stuff on my phone though. i plugged it into my pc and it popped up like a hard drive. i was able to transfer 11 gigs of music in like 10 minutes.
the sound is sick as hell. it's the best sound i've heard out of such tiny speakers. it actually sounds better than my laptop haha. and dat 1080p screen... just wow.
i couldn't be happier with this phone right now. i feel like i made a great choice for my 2 year contract. can't even imagine what my next phone will be like in 2015.

we are right on the verge of some absolutely INSANE things... google is doing nutty stuff with AI and software right now like context sensitive searches and image object recognition, there are HUGE advancements in battery and capacitor tech right around the corner that will make us completely rethink the way we think of power for devices, then there is flexible see-through screens, and more

I watched a podcast with some leader in nano tech and he said that advancements in nao-tech will allow next generation chips and boards to be made out of common materials instead of rare materials... and that the cost of a laptop (in terms of raw material) would be about the equivlant of that in cardboard pound for pound

I think it is becoming less and less about power and more and more about software, durability, energy, cost, etc... I think we are reaching a point soon in which powerful hardware will just be small it wont need to be large, it wont overheat, it wont drain power faster than we can maintain it

Before, I was using the attached image of Samus and Ridley.

I'm jealous. :p

I keep waiting for Virgin Mobile to get a prepaid HTC 4G LTE phone, but the weeks keep stretching...

I just got a bunch of awesome pictures of the Space Engine. I have about 70 in a folder, and my desktop is set to switch between them every 5 minutes. I'll post a few that I really like.
These are all found in-game, btw. You just get a nice computer, install the Space Engine, put in some nice settings that you find online, and then go exploring, looking for beautiful sights. It used to be much more rudimentary, but the developers have kept adding more and more stuff, until it's able to look as good as what I'm putting up here.

I see you use Cyberlink Powerdirector. I've been hearig good things about it, and was considering it as my video-editing software. Thoughts?

Disappointed to not see a porn folder (unless it's hidden. Dun dun duuuuuun!) on your desktop.
Oh I haven't used it, there's just a bunch of random stuff on my desktop I haven't and don't use haha. I didn't even know that's what it was, maybe I'll look at it.
And who downloads porn? pffft

I don't like a cluttery background so I tend to avoid most photos. But I did take a few photos on my holiday specifically to be used for my desktop or as a framed poster.

This is my current background. The darker block on the left is where the icons go, so the text is legible:

As for gaming shots, night time screenshots from WWHD would be pretty awesome with the clean visuals and smooth lighting.

Edit: Something like this:
