SEGA's Next Nintendo Exclusive is "Sonic Boom"

#2
This looks exciting. The music is a bit cringe-worthy for Sonic, but I'm liking the change. In my opinion, it looks like SEGA's going back to their Sonic Adventure days. This can only mean good things.

:s what are they doing?? The character models look off everywhere

More info on the game

I think this looks promising! I'm more excited for this than I was for Sonic game that released last year. SEGA needs to do what Nintendo did with Mario. Create 2D sonic games and 3D sonic games, but make them play differently. Sonic from the Genesis era was excellent. There is no reason they can't do 2D games now with quality. The New Super Mario Bros line of games prove there is an audience for 2D. As for 3D, this looks like an interesting concept. I'd like to see more about this.

What the eff did I just see? That's rather left field I must say. It looks pretty fun and that but..............skrillex in my Sonic? No thanks =;

This may not be the third exclusive that's part of the deal.
I'm doing a news post on the front page that will be more in depth, but let me just say... this trailer doesn't do this game justice

That being said, the models and lighting in some areas look like Toy Story 1 CGI, but they did say it was a work in progress.

RIP Sega and the Wii U, I thought the 3rd game would be like an Adventure 3/completed and not rushed Sonic 06, nope, it's just another shitty Sonic game
There is no way I can be optimistic about this

This came out of nowhere, wow !

I'm not a huge fan of the chara design, but I like the Rachet & Clank direction.

Not sure this will appeal to Sonic fans though.

Each time Sega tried something remote from the traditional Sonic games, it was a failure.

I need to see more, but I'm mot wowed by it...

I hope we will get more details in a upcoming Nintendo Direct.
I'd rather Nintendo focus on games people actually care about.
Like FUCKING X

LOL

But I mean, I would rather have a proper presentation of the game in a Nintendo Direct.

I don't like press release.

Let's keep X for the E3 glory :)

Lel.

Lellele.

4 player co-op , 2 player on screen all times, different abilities for everyone.

Sega's going big on this

Made by western devs, lolol

Cryengine 3 instead of New CryEngine( because that came out last year)

CryEngine 3 is the latest CryEngine. They're no longer using numbers.
Cryengine is the latest Cryengine.

I've update my news post 23 times now, think I'm done now (minus a rumor post going up).

New initiative, new look

Some months ago, SEGA revealed a new animated television series titled Sonic Boom, bringing its well-known mascot back on air. A few days back the company sent out invitations to a media event centered around Sonic the Hedgehog, also declaring that 2014 would be the Year of Sonic.

Well, news has been slowly unfolding from this event and we're now able to share some of the details. First off, Sonic, Tales, Knuckles and Amy are all sporting new models for the Sonic Boom
animated series, but in potentially more exciting news, the game is also being released exclusively on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

SEGA: "For more than two decades, Sonic the Hedgehog has been one of the world’s biggest gaming icons, with over 70 video game titles, four animated series, and an extensive global merchandising line to his name. This year, SEGA is excited to introduce a new branch of the Sonic universe, entitled Sonic Boom, that will debut a new look for Sonic and friends and launch their first-ever CG animated television series, new video games for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, and a new toy line. The creative driving forces behind these projects are working together with SEGA to kick-start a global campaign for Sonic Boom that will excite and engage new and existing fans across a variety of platforms.

Sonic Boom’s visual identity includes character designs inspired by the abilities and unique personalities of each of the characters, while still maintaining the core identity and values of the Sonic brand. The rich worlds of the TV series and videogame will share a common narrative and a number of location and stylistic similarities reflecting full collaboration between videogame, TV series partners and SEGA from the outset."
(Screenshots are on front page. smd)
Sonic Boom: The Game will serve as a prequel to the television series and is set to deliver a "totally different experience" compared to previous games in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise while also delivering "collaborative gameplay" at its core. The Wii U version of the game is being developed in the United States by California-based Big Red Button Entertainment, a newly formed game development studio consisting of employees such as Bob Rafei, former top dog at Naughty Dog and Jeff Lander, founder of Darwin 3D. The Nintendo 3DS version, on the other hand, is being handled by Sanzaru Games, known for it's recent work on Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time in collaboration with Sonic Team. SEGA has also now confirmed that Sonic Boom is the third title to be released as part of the three game exclusive deal with Nintendo. The the game is developed using CryEngine (not the latest version), runs in 1080p (according to the trailer), supports co-op, and will "operate in harmony with the television series and act as a prequel to the series."

SEGA: "Sonic Boom will take advantage of the innovative hardware of both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, with traditional elements of Sonic games, such as speed, also featured. The videogame will also introduce exploration, combat and a new Enerbeam tether mechanic that will allow the Sonic Boom world to be discovered in totally unique ways."
Sega of America president and COO John Chen also made it clear that "Sonic Boom will not be replacing the original franchise."

SegaAmerica released a reveal trailer for the Wii U version of the game, which can be found below. For long time Sonic fans, your first reaction might not be a positive one, as a lot of changes have been made to appeal to western culture. My advice? View it with an open mind... if that helps.

And the TV show trailer...

I know people are going to hate Skrillex no matter what, but I swear you'd change your mind if you saw him live. He's freaking brilliant live. My brother's hipster EDM scene friends agree, even after snubbing him right before the concerts begin.

I wonder if Sega is kicking themselves for this three Sonic game deal. Lost World didn't sell that great.
Lost world sold 500k so not so bad.

Not sure it's a great idea to have a Wii U and a 3DS version

Te 3DS version of Lost World is clearly cannibalising the Wii U version potential ( below 200 K... ).

Has anyone here actually played Sonic Lost World? And if so, what was it like?
I really wanted to try it, but it was skewered by reviews so I never picked it up.

Wait where do they say why Knuckles looks like Crash? Even though he looks more like Crunch?
The Nintendo 3DS version is being handled by Sanzaru Games, known for it’s recent work on Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

It could have been a really good game if given some more time to cook but its fine. Its a good game hampered by some bad design elements.
