Starfox Wii U delayed in 2016

Big bombshell from Nintendo, Starfox Wii U, the big holiday title from Nintendo si delayed in 2016... Shigeru Miyamoto apologized for the delay and said the following :

We have been developing Star Fox Zero for Wii U with the aim of releasing it this year," he wrote. "Although we felt that the development had been progressing well, we now believe that we will need a little more time to work on areas such as the unprecedented discovery that we want players to experience in the game by using two screens, and further polishing the level designs and perfecting the tone of the cut scenes

There is one word that jump to my eyes when I read Miyamoto's statement "polishing". The game has been consistently criticized for its lack of polish, something that is very un-Nintendo to say the least.

By the way, I actually even called that delay myself few months back, so it's hardly a surprise if you ask me...

That said I applaud Nintendo for that VERY difficult decision. They simply do not have any single big holiday title for Wii U. They could have just released the game in order to make some money, but they did not. #respect.

I wonder if that decision was easier to take with the very good earl sales numbers of Super Mario Maker...

It does suck, but I guess there's not much we can do about it. At least I'll have XCX to play (on top of everything else to play), so there's that, and if it means the game is overall better as a result, then so much the better.

EDIT: Ummm, I should point out that the link is currently NSFW as there's a guy posting gifs of porn in the comments, so be warned (as of 5:20am CST)

lol, what the hell Nintendo?

Cant say I am surprised either, and I hope they are serious about polishing it and delivering on whatever this unprecedented discovery is. Hmm. Like others I probably will be busy with Xenoblade and shit but this is still pretty dumb.

I remember when @Ex-Actarus and others said that it should be postponed. Well, you were right.

This is shocking, Nintendo has nothing that we know about for this holidays

Goodbye Wii U. Please, NX, come soon.

Kinda sad, but more pleased that its going to be a better game in the end which is more important. I have a bunch of other shiz to play. My favourite series will await me early next year......(Maybe I'll just stare at the Falco amiibo until then)

Only the LARGEST JRPG EVER MADE, A DREAM COME TRUE FOR ITS SCI-FI-LOVING DEVELOPERS:

Oh and also Yoshi's Wooly World and Fatal Frame.
I see. For me Xenoblade is going to be my game for 4-6 months.

In fact, I don't care about this "poor" lineup, because I've got hundreds of Wii/Wii U games to play on my wish list.

However, Yoshi, Xeno and Fatal Frame, for holidays, is not enough. Fatal Frame won't sell a thing. Yoshi is just Yoshi. Xeno will be fine.

I agree none of them will sell well, except maybe Yoshi. I was telling some casual friends about Splatoon, and they said, "yeah we don't know about that. But how about Yoshi's Wooly World, when is that coming out? We'll definitely get it". And it looks cute as hell, plus it's apparently a solid platformer all around, so it could end up selling surprisingly well.

I could understand the lack of Wii U games as most of the resources have shifted to NX. But what about the 3DS ? No big Wii U games, ok, but no big 3DS title ? That's pretty surprising... Does Nintendo expects Yokai Watch to be that big ?

I cannot remember a holiday season without a big handheld or console game. I mean no mainline Pokemon, Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, etc...

Honestly, with this delay, Star Fox Zero has gone from a "probably buy" to "most definitely buy". I was a tad skeptical, but every WiiU game that Nintendo has previously delayed has turned out extremely well with the finished product. This give me more faith in the final version of Star Fox we'll receive. Yes, it's not great for their holiday sales, but it's good for Star Fox fans that they'll get a better game.

And yet somehow Nintendo is not making a big deal out of this. Sure, I wasn't a huge XBC fan, but it was a critical darling and was the prime mover behind OpRainfall. People go batshit for a FF7 remake, so it's not like there isn't still a fanbase for JRPGs.

But there won't be a bundle. Or a marketing blitz for their marquee title available for the holidays. Or anything, really. Monolith will somehow stealth release a GOTY candidate a few weeks before Christmas, because...reasons.
However, Yoshi, Xeno and Fatal Frame, for holidays, is not enough. Fatal Frame won't sell a thing. Yoshi is just Yoshi. Xeno will be fine.
I don't think Star Fox would have been a huge console mover during the holidays, anyways, though. People who already own a Wii U and like SF will buy it, but they'll do that in February just as easily as they would've in December.

I didn't expect Time magazine to report the delay... I won't call Starfox games "huge", it's big Nintendo franchise, but it's not huge by any means. The best selling game Starfox 64 ( or Lyat Wars in Europe... never understood that one... ) sold 4 million copies. That's very good, but very far from Mario, Mario Kart, Smash, Pokemon, Donkey Kong or Zelda.

If I remember correctly, I believe at the time, some company in Europe had Star Fox trademarked? Or a very similar name.

Dont forget Devils Turd will be there to hold us over.......:D

Im calling it now, Pikmin 4 has just become a December 2015 title. Watch out for a big Nintendo Direct highlighting it next month.

With Star Fox delayed, I do think Nintendo will focus more marketing on Xenoblade X and Mario Tennis. Perhaps a run of marketing that highlights a $250 Mario Kart bundle that also showcases all Nintendos first party Wii U games. Wii U's will still sell well this holliday season thanks to Mario Kart, Smash Bros, and Splatoon.

I said Star Fox looked rough at E3, and now its delayed. Nintendo knew the package wasnt up to their standards, and 2016 could probably use a big title early in the year to hold us over till Zelda arrives.

Since there's nothing huger than StarFox for 2015, then we can say that StarFox delay is a big deal.

Ok, XCX is huge, but it's for RPG lovers.

My one issue with this game and really any Platinum game going forward, Scalebound included, is that they're biting off a lot more than they can chew. Platinum games has about ~ 175 employees and they're currently working on 5 different projects. There latest project was the new Transformers game and while it's receiving pretty good reviews, the game is about 5 hours long. You have to wonder whether it's suffering from their over ambition. Their previous project was Legend of Korra and that game absolutely sucked. We've seen Star Fox and from the looks of it, it wasn't too hot. The same can be said about Scalebound and it's sub 20 fps. I really hope that Star Fox will end up good because I genuinely like the franchise, but I have practically no hopes for it.

Does anyone remember the time Nintendo delayed Pikmin 3, like, 4 times?

I do, because I had planned to buy it. After the second delay, I was done waiting for it. There was no purchase from me.

I hate delays, but at least Nintendo might be able to rebuild hype for Star Fox again in 2016.

@CitizenOfVerona you think Pikmin was worth the wait? I loved it, best Pikmin yet.

I've owned Pikmin 3 for almost two years now annnnnnd...I have yet to start it.

*hides in corner*
I played my copy for a couple of days and never again. It's not like I don't like it; the game's really good. I just haven't felt like playing it.

^ Love Clint Eastwood.

But sadly, it's the same for me. Was super excited for Pikmin 3 and picked it up immediately (mostly because of the kinda-drought at the time), however, I only played it for a few days before I stopped playing it completely, for no apparent reason.

I see.

It's like when you just decide to put your money on other games and forget the delayed game.

I can get over it, but I won't forgive Nintendo if they cancel Zelda for Wii U to put it out on NX.

I'll burn my Wii U and a Mario amiibo!

Pikmin 3 was the biggest surprise for me. I had always overlooked them in the past, but after playing Pikmin 3, never again. I love the game, most refreshing game I had played in years.

I love this franchise since the first one. I enjoy this kind of games with strategy and resources. I used to play a lot of Age of Empires back in the days and Pikmin is like that but better and original.

It seems Starfox Zero could be delayed... AGAIN. Neogaf reported the rumor coming from several french retailers. Gamekult, the most respect videogames site in France, verified the information and they got a confirmation from one of their source that the game was indeed delayed. French retailers are now pointing at a July 2016 release...

- Is this a strategical or technical delay ?

Is it possible Nintendo needs to delay Starfox Zero as they're looking to spread the release of Wii U titles the most until the release of NX. We have already Twilight Princess HD and Pokken Tournament for H1 2016 ( TPHD in April and Pokken in Q2 ). Maybe Nintendo doesn't have any other big title for H2 2016 and Starfox Zero could help fill the gap until NX release in October/November 2016 ?

Or maybe this is ANOTHER technical delay as the game just doesn't meet Nintendo high quality standards. I will go with that option personally. I saw the last videos of the game on GAF and the game just look bad... Bad from a technical standpoint. Maybe the team has decided to drop the gamepad support ? That double feed requirement is just affecting the game visual quality too dramatically. Besides, the gamepad gameplay wasn't that popular to begin with at E3 2015 and other events...

Your thoughts guys...

It wouldn't bother me. I hope it's super tight when it comes out. If a delay makes that happen then so be it.

Personally it's not bad, but it will be a shame for Nintendo if they delay this game one more time. I hope this rumour is false.

Hey if this makes the game better then by all means, I've got a load of other stuff to play. They can add in a solid online multiplayer mode which would be great. I love Star Fox a lot, but if it got delayed again I wouldn't mind it that much.
