TNE's October/Halloween Thread

Creepshow was great. More dark than I remember. I won't spoil anything cause I really think it needs to be watched without knowing much, but there were times that were super disturbing and sad.

My friends also liked my treat, but they literally picked off all the gummie worms and half of the rice krispie squares are still there. Ugh....

The Happening comes to mind.

Can you even consider Nightmare on Elm Street 6 a horror movie?

I remember this ride my brothers, my brother's ex, and myself were on one year at Disney (this is over a decade ago), which I believe was a Dinosaur ride of some sort. There was a part of the ride where a T-Rex popped out and gave a big roar, and scared my brother's ex, somewhat my brother, and lots of other people on the ride, but then my other brother and I, sitting side by side, were just staring at the thing unamused.

It was also one of those snapshot moments of the ride, and our expressions were mostly "meh" than "OMG! KILL IT WITH FIRE!"

Absolutely "The Happening", most of the Nightmare on Elm Street" movies, especially 2, 6, 5, and 4... Same goes for most of the Friday the 13th movies, Hellraiser sequels, the Child's Play movies other than the original and the newest direct to video one.

How was the new Child's Play? I remember being impressed by the trailer but forgot all about it afterwards.

edit: Whoooa, 80% on Rotten Tomatoes....but only 5.6/10 on imdB? That's weird

edit 2: Can I watch Curse without seeing the rest? I only watched the first one

There's one part in Nightmare 4 that is absolutely disgusting, but that's about it. I think Wes Craven's Nightmare trilogy (1, 3 and New Nightmare are by far the best).

I dont think The Happening was supposed to be a scary horror movie, more of a disaster film imo. Either way, its one of the funniest films I have ever seen.

I would say every horror movie released these days fail to scare me, especially the found footage junk. Horror can be well made and fun but I dont think I'll ever be unsettled by them now. This goes for all horror movies really, I'm just in that state where I enjoy the movies but dont frighten.

Blah blah, as for the question hmm probably The Others. It was during the time when I could be scared but I was just super bored.

I dont know if I can recommend watching Curse without watching the rest. Yeah, you definitely can get by just watching the original and that. The rest of the movies add to the fun nods during the movie.

Oculus was really unsettling, but I felt disappointed that there was no payoff.

Babadook was unsettling and just great overall.

(@Koenig, there's a new top hat movie for you.)

Insidious fucking sucked, holy shit.

That's about all Horror I've watched in the past year.

Me and my friends all enjoy Insidious actually. I thought it was a good throw back to movies like Poltergeist. It didn't need gore or a lot of effects to scare you. I really appreciate that in this age of 150+ million dollar budgets or torture porn bullshit

Oh Babadook is real good, forgot about that one. Not scary for me, but I saw it unideal setting. Still managed to creep me out a lot though.
I havent seen Oculus yet because I plan on marathonning the WWE films one day, maybe after it goes belly-up.

I was liking it while they were just giving you glimpses of what was going on. Then they started just showing you everything in full view, and it lost its charm for me.

Yeah I can see that. I enjoy the movie a lot, but when he (SPOILER) goes to the ghost realm, it kinda starts being a bit silly. But like I said, seems like most movies would start off throwing everything but the kitchen sink at you in the first act.

Got this in the mail today. Only posting this because it has the word "horror" on the poster. Surreal and weird as hell yet grounded and funny. A good amount of subtle depth too. Its a feel good movie when all is said and done, I think.

On the flipside, Miike also directed Audition, which is genuinely creepy and fucked. Has some gore but damn if it isnt effective. Gonna have to give these two a rewatch.

Over the weekend me and a few mates got together and watched Night of the Creeps, different mates than the bi-weekly movie night club. It was perfect, it was the perfect mix of paying attention, laughing at all the cheesiness and cracking jokes. Night of the Creeps is a fantastic crowd movie.

On it's own, I still loved it. It's a love letter to the older B movies, but surprisingly, has good pacing and characters in it's own right. The special effects are great too, a good mix of scary, but also humor. Solid one-liners and quotes too. Check it out.

And the other night a few of us watched Donnie Darko. I love this movie, but didn't see it in awhile. I still think it's utterly fantastic. It always makes me sad though. In fact, fuck talking about it. Night of the Creeps <3

Tonight will finally probably be Beetlegeuse.

Mainly if you saw the first Child's Play, then Bride of Chucky, and Seed of Chucky that would really be all you needed to see. I was impressed by Curse though because they found a way to make it scary again.

And yes, I love Babadook! That was extremely well done.

So my friend texted me, Beetlegeuse got delayed once again. Went to his house and saw It Follows.

Arrrrrrghhhhhhhhhuidglsavbcjk

I should like this movie, I want too, but hot fuck that ending. Great cinematography, great concept, some shots were absolutely creepy, but......that ending.

Modern horror films man, if they're not shit, they're good with a shit ending. Maybe I'll like it better in the morning.

You won't like it better in the morning. It had such potential, but it fucked it all up.

Wait what was wrong with the ending? I've morphed into a vapid, surface level viewer I miss all the intricacies these days. Spoiler tag if you must, I think its a film worth watching.

I'm pretty sure those mirrors were invented solely for horror movies.

Also, It Follows ending
Basically the two characters are walking down the road holding hands, you can see someone following them, cut to black

Speaking of this RE4 talk from earlier, been listening to this. I can recall every single area where the music shows up.

Cogedlo cogedlo cogedlo cogedlo...
Matalo!
Basta! Hijo de puta...

Damn, I'd forgotten how good many of these quotes were. I gotta replay this game.

In this thread and others, I've been writing "Beetlegeuse"..

I'll be damned, the movie is actually called Beetlejuice. I could have sworn it was the other way.

I may have reach unironic hipster singularity. There's.....just nowhere left to go from here.

I love Halloween to. I don't have many horror games to play though coz I am terrible with scares lol. What would you recommend? I really wanna play something scary for my lets play channel. On a side note, does anyone else find that scene of the maid girl from Super Paper Mario the most TERRIFING thing in any Mario game? I know I do! 0_0

Early Silent Hills and Resident Evil are good go-to scary games. I personally enjoy played a Castlevania game around this time of year. Luigi's Mansion is also good, although not very scary obviously.

Never played, but I hear the Fatal Frame series is really good.

Oh, Alien: Isolation was really good too.

Watched Beetlejuice tonight. Well, I seen it so many times it was mostly background while I was in the chat and such. I still love this movie. Michael Keaton as the ghost with the most ALWAYS puts a smile on my face.

I watched a video about it, and the person brought up a good point, if this movie was made any later in Tim Burton's career, it's probably that Johny Depp would have been Beetlejuice. He probably would have done a good job in his own way, but to me and many others, Michael Keaton is perfect.

@CitizenOfVerona for some reason it won't let me quote you but thank you for the suggestions. I just remembered I do have the original Luigi's Mansion on Gamecube and that used to scare the hell out a me so I think that would be perfect. Think I might get one of the Silent Hills someday and give it a try. looks pretty good. Tell a lie, I have actually played a lot of horror games but they were suggested from my bro and he has a totally different scare trigger than me so I am never bothered by his games lol. He made me play this game (can't remember the name now) where there were mad men who ran at you at random and you had to investigate something at the same time. It never scared me as I could hear them from miles away and I had a pipe to kill them with. Not very defenceless if you ask me lol. But funnily enough, I was scared all the way through Portal as I kept thinking GLADOS was gonna randomly set a trap on me and kill me as she had control over the whole building I was in. Kinda scary when you think about it that way. Or is that just me being a wuss? <:3

Gonna watch Murder Party movie this year. Didn't get a chance to watch it last year. It's a comedy about a guy who accidently finds an invitation to a meeting which he thinks is a Halloween party but is actually full of psychopaths who want to kill him. It comes recommended from the Nostalgia Critic so I thought I would give it a go. Anyone else seen it?

Tomorrow night is the movie night at my house. It's a tie between Trick r Treat and Creepshow. I dug up some worms in the yard

View attachment 2575

Just kidding. Rice Krispie treats with crushed up Oreos and gummie worms. Let's hope it's good!
Looks awesome! X3 Wish I came up with that. We usually have hotdogs and beans or soup for Halloween dinner and mum calls them fingers and brains but she does nothing to it. However, we recently saw a picture of an awesome way of making the sausages look like actual fingers in a local shop. We are thinking of doing it this year :3 The nails are onion.

Was it Condemned? First person game where you fight hobos with melee weapons.

And if traps and such are more your speed, then give Resident Evil 4 a go, that game has a lot of traps you gotta look out for, but at the same time isn't truly scary except for a few parts.

Let me know how they turn out if you do it. I want to try this:

Red velvet cake that looks like a brain...don't know if I can do it though.

Nope. THIS is Betelgeuse:

Bah gawd. It always freaks me out seeing pictures or those gifs that keep showing bigger stuff in space. Makes me feel even more insignificant than normal

YES! It was Condemned! That cake looks awesome. I wish you luck in making it. The hotdogs I will send a pic when I make them :3

On a side note. How do I add an image without attaching it? I am kinda new to forums like I said so I need to learn these things

On the bar above where you type a post, next to the smile face is "image". Just click on it, insert the URL and that's it.

Okay, so since Beetlejuice I watched....Coraline and Drag me to Hell. I dropped the ball the last few days.

I enjoy Coraline a lot. I miss stop motion and such, so it automatically wins points from me. I find the movie pretty creepy too, I'm sure if it came out when I was a kid I would have pissed myself.

Drag me to Hell though...I honestly don't know if I like it or not. Loads of jump scares, but it's Sam Raimi and some scenes are pretty fucking funny. I haven't been this torn on a movie in awhile.

I wanted to watch more movies, but I doubt I'll be able to get them all in before Halloween, so between now and then I'll probably settle on Trick r Treat, Nightmare on Elm Street and The Shining. Maybe I'll double feature Nightmare 1 and 3.

On the game side, I beat Yoshi's Woolly World as Skeleton Yoshi, and I started up Dead Space tonight. Good stuff all over.

Also got my costume stuff all sorted. Just need to get a blood splatter on my shirt and mask. I guess before I go to the party I'll splatter some on my face too.

I watched Coraline in 3D when it was out in the cinema. 3D was pointless other than at the beginning scene with the doll really lol. But I love the stop motion in that movie to. In my opinion, stop motion makes things much scarier. James and the Giant Peach I find absolutely terrifying lol and that isn't even supposed to be scary.
