TNE's October/Halloween Thread

White Phoenix of the Crown
We've been binging horror franchises this month. We did all of A Nightmare on Elm Street (including Freddy vs Jason), just finished the Scream saga, and about to do all the Saw movies. (But this isn't Octoboer or Halloween behavior for me. My go-to movie when I just want to "watch a movie" will be a horror/thriller.

I strongly dislike the Saw series. The first one was pretty cool I'll admit, but I hate the wave of torture porn movies.

Didn't realize it's page 4. Looks like this'll be the last page so last question is: What are you doing on Halloween?

Will likely spend the day watching Football, and wearing no pants. The day before I have Halloween party to go to, so if all goes well, I should be using Saturday for some R&R.

The night before is the big Halloween Gala we always go to. Our costumes are all prepped and ready. We're hoping we can win for the 4th year in a row. And on actual Halloween, my brother has a tradition where he hosts a driveway party for all the families (that he likes) in the neighborhood. So all the adults come together, put their bowls of candy out on one long table (this way, the kids still get as much candy as they would have), and the adults can chat/eat/drink. We go every year. It's a good time.

That driveway party sounds amazing. Why am I picturing the opening act of an action movie before the shit hits the fan? :p

Ha ha! With this group, if it were an action comedy, I could definitely believe that.

Edit: And it is amazing! Picture all the best foods from a phenomenal super bowl party, perfect weather (about 70 degrees), nice breeze, lots of laughter. I never miss it.

sitting in watching movies and eating Halloween themed snacks. I love to spend relaxing time with the family :3

Also, are we not allowed to go past page 4? or is it that you just gonna leave the conversation?

Been playing more Dead Space. Holy shit I didn't expect it to be this good.

I can't remember the last time a game has been this stressful (in a good way). Lots of times I went off to explore, walked in a room, saw something scuttle about and said "fuck that" and backed out. Another time I was walking down a hallway and heard some noises as I exited to a room, I turned around to make sure nothing was following me, but as I did a monster came up the elevator I was next too and almost got a hit on me. I actually jumped and made a noise somewhere between "aaaaaahhhh" and "fuck".

While I love the gameplay, I adore the environment. Reminds me of watching Alien for the first time. I love this ship and each area in it. The way yellow foggy light shines through pipes in some maintenance areas are striking. The green glow of a room of test tube babies, or when I'm in a med lab with a bright light rotating around the room. I also like how corridors and room loop back into each other like a metroid-lite. This might be my favorite game setting in a long time.

Gotta mention how this game messes with me. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I can't count how many times I open a door and think an object is a monster. I swear sometimes when I spin the camera too fast I see something move. If the developers actually program some random shit in then I applaud them, but most likely I'm just too jumpy for it. I find space scary as hell, and I also find being trapped in an un-survivable situation even worse.

Is Dead Space 2 as scary as this shit? I know lots of people said 3 is an action game, but how's 2?

God, buying a cheap ps3 to catch up to all these games, one of the best decisions I made with gaming.

Just don't expect Dead Space 2 to be as good as the first one and you should be able to enjoy it plenty.

Love Dead Space. We talk about it here:

Yep, we finally uploaded our ep about scary games and scary stuff in games in general etc. I think it's a really good ep that I and 2 of my friends were in. So if anyone wants some stuff to listen to when working or whatever, I would love it if you listened. I even edited myself(in Windows Movie Maker)! Also did some sp00ky visuals. But yeah, proud of that so wanted to share.

I saw Goosebumps today with some stupid kid.
It was alright, much better than I expected and the kids liked it a lot. It kind of plays out like a Goosebumps book too, which is pretty smart and funny but also real risky.

On the drive back, as midnight struck it was playing Thriller on the radio. Beautiful.

Last night, I played the first 15 or so minutes of System Shock 2. I hope to continue to experience this game even more as time rolls on. Luckily, it is supported by Mac, so I'll be able to play through it while out of town. We'll see if this game is truly scary, or if it hasn't aged as well as it should've.

Stay tuned...and for now, I'm fucking tired as hell, so nite. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Happy Halloween!

Yesterday was a waste. When I left the house in the morning I didn't come back until 1130 at night. I did a few calls, then went to a friends house to help him move, got called to work again, went back to help him move, he bought me supper, then finished moving. I'm pretty tired today.

Oh well, Halloween party tonight.

Yeah, there's nothing scary about torture porn horror. It's just cringe-y.

I'm at AnimeUSA for Halloween. Plan on drinking a lot.

So, for work yesterday, we all dressed up in costumes. With my blond hair and height, I decided to go as Iceman from Top Gun, flight suit and all. I stopped at Publix on my way way home from work to do the weekly grocery shopping... Still in costume.
Anyway, so this kid that looks like he's in some jacked up Karate Kid outfit snidely says "Nice costume, dude." His friends laugh. I say, "You too." To which the kid says, "I'm not wearing a costume, man." At which point I say, "Well then you look ridiculous." and walk away. His friends laugh hysterically.
Game. Set. Match.
Public Halloween Takedown Award goes to me!

Man taking the boys trick or treating was awesome.

Saw 2 exgfs, and I look way better than them, but the talk was nice. Seen quite a few old friends and there kids which was sweet. Got to kick it with some old school folks who used to let me sleep in there house and were great to me.

Oh and both the boys made off with tons of that sweet sweet candy.

Currently at Sonic cashing in on 50 cent corn dogs!

Sounding the alarm of my people!

Caught one!

Walked home late enough to catch tired people wanting to stop handing out candy so they just dumped on all of us. Pretty great haul. Hella tired but I'm supposed to head out later to do the dance of my people too, along with the eating and drunking of my people.

ON THE GREAT HOLLOWS EVE I GET SCARED IN THE MOST PATHEDIC WAYS!!!

My wife and I are watching one of the Bourne movies. And this assassin bust threw a damn window you can't see threw. He bust in instantly shooting an uzi trying to mow down Bourne!

When he busted thru that glass blasting an uzi all instantly, my wife and I both jumped outta our seats!

Well played Holloween, well played indeed. :msrs:

I'm one day late, but I just beaten Dead Space.

I really really want to pick up Dead Space 2, but I've been putting off Dragon's Dogma enough as is. I'll start that sometime the week, probably the next full evening I have to myself.

So over all did you enjoy Dead Space?
Yeah I did. Super surprised how good it turned out. Still not sure why I didn't play it much back in the day. If this was back in high school/college, I could see myself repeating play throughs it like I did with RE4.

I am a bit confused at some story bits though.

I should've mentioned this last night, but I finished Metro 2033 redux. Quite a good game, I must say. I'll have to try the game again in Ranger mode.

[I'd like your post if I could, sjm, but I don't have FB.]

So, post-con comedown is a real thing. Spend lots of time with your best friends, have a constant air of nerd camaraderie, always have something to do, and then...nada. One day, you're at an anime burlesque show until 1:30 am, and the next you're sitting behind a desk.

It was really weird last night, because I had just finished moving apartments before leaving for the con. So I came "home" to an unfamiliar place full of boxes and silence. I had to plug in my PS2 and throw on a DVD just to have some noise.

Still, 10/10, would do again.

Gave you a nod there, Steve. So something just occured to me as I saw that photo. Your avatar on TNE is really you? For some reason I thought it was some celebrity, but could never remember nor figure out who.

Either way, thumbs up from your buddy, Shoulder. :mthumb:

Yep, avatar is really me. (Was taken during a photo shoot a Cincinnati Fashion Week a few years ago) I changed my avatar from Link to me back when everyone was using their own picture as an avatar and never changed it back.

Thank you, Shoulder! Appreciate it greatly!

In the grand scheme of things, you're not missing much. I only use it because almost all my friends use it.
All my friends use it aswell. I just have a rule. If you and I don't talk on the reg there might be a reason why. So I stick with my 10-15 friends that I talk to all the time.

I don't think I have missed anything by not having Facebook. So I'm cool with everything being how it is.

Got this in the mail today. Only posting this because it has the word "horror" on the poster. Surreal and weird as hell yet grounded and funny. A good amount of subtle depth too. Its a feel good movie when all is said and done, I think.

On the flipside, Miike also directed Audition, which is genuinely creepy and fucked. Has some gore but damn if it isnt effective. Gonna have to give these two a rewatch.
i think that's cool as fuck
