UPDATE 3 - LITERALLY PULLED AS I POSTED THIS....:mpray:

UPDATE AGAIN! IT CAN STILL BE PLAYED THROUGH WEB ARCHIVES!

https://web.archive.org/web/20160404022541/http://zelda30tribute.com/

A LOOPHOLE SO NOW YOU CAN STILL ENJOY IT!

https://www.reddit.com/domain/zelda30tribute.com/

http://zelda30tribute.com/

The game's not yet fully finished, but the core concept - the originally single-screen game becoming a full 3D world - is in place, and three dungeons are fully playable.

Play this shit now before Nintendo decides it has to go....

I'd be willing to bet that at least 80% of under-20's gamers have never played it. Not so hard to believe...
and that is sad.
It's sad because it means we're getting old. :p

'Tis always this way (a generation of music listeners have never heard "West End Blues"). And with the fragmentation of the gaming market, it means there will be fewer and fewer mass shared experiences, too. That's why this project is kinda heartening.

Fucking Nintendo man....

SORRY, FOLKS.
"Nintendo asked us to remove this site for copyright infringement. I guess Zelda30Tribute was a little too pixel perfect :) We're sad about that, but we get it. We started this project because we love Nintendo and the joy they have given us throughout the years. From the start of development, we knew this result could potentially happen. Nintendo has every right to protect their IP. No complaints from us, we had a blast working on this tribute and made some friends along the way.

Big thanks to the half million folks who played our game! We learned a bunch and wrote some code that others might learn from, too. We plan to post the project to Github soon, once we've had a chance to remove Nintendo-owned assets. :)

We both have future software projects in the works. If you would like to keep in touch, please follow us on social media or join our mailing list. We'll let you know!

This was not the greatest game in the world, no. This was just a tribute. Thank you Nintendo for the inspiration!"

That took surprisingly long. But yeah, still a bummer that they just shut it down instead of accepting the free promotion. All they had to do was promote it, score goodwill points with the internet crowd, and then shut it down a week or two later when people forgot about it.

It seems so easy. And you know that's exactly how it would work
