I watched The Artist the other day. It was executed brilliantly with exceptional performances from its actors, but the story was somewhat nonsensical. Today I watched The Hunger Games. I was very fond of the book (only read the first one) and the movie was adequate. But, no one should watch the movie without reading the book first.

Awww, man. I was going to go see Hunger Games this weekend.

If you haven't seen "Winter's Bone," it's on Netflix, and I HIGHLY recommend putting it in your queue ASAP. It stars young Ms. Lawrence from Hunger Games, and it's probably the most...I'm not sure what word to use...perhaps heroic, movie I've ever seen. It starts off very slow, but it's really amazing.

We need another web site: the Cinema Enthusiast.

I recently saw Milk and thought that it had some of the best performances i've seen for a long long time, from most of the cast. Everybody was brilliant in it. Apart from maybe James Franco who didn't really do anything exceptional, but Sean Penn was incredible, fully deserving of the oscar (even going up against Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler) and Josh Brolin... Well, is there a word that means even better than phenomenal? Because if there is, he was it. Emile Hirsch was brilliant too. I don't know if he's gay IRL, but if he's not, then i'm even more impressed with his performance.

LOL @ Emile Hirsh comment. You are correct - very good film.

Well if mattavelle is bringing his trademark good feels and optimism, I suppose it's only fitting that I show up with my cynicism and dry wit to balance things out. Hello all.

And Matt: you can upload an avatar by going to User Control Panel (below the bolded "Board index" link), click on the profile tab, and then "edit avatar."

Sigs are right there, too...but for some reason, sigs aren't showing up for me right now, anyway.

Hey guys! Welcome to CT plan B! Hopefully, we'll convince you guys to make it your Plan A once you see our highly superior ToS.
(We don't even have one yet. Basically, try and keep porn, nudity, and heavy cussing off.) And yeah, trolls go bye bye very quickly over here. So no need to worry about them.

What's up Jam? Nice to meet you. If you have lurked IGN for 8 years then hopefully you have seen me over there. I've been a user since 02 over there. Anyhow its just cool to me to have another place were there people I enjoy posting with are at.

Maybe I will make this my plan A Menashe........I know Mr. Abe Lincoln would really go a long way in convincing me of this decision

I gotta say, it's nice seeing so many familiar faces popping up over here. Of course, i don't mean that literally - i've never actually seen any of your faces. Apart from the handsome specimen of manliness that is Mattavelle, whose face i saw when he was on the TV news last year.

You gotta be kidding if you think I've got a friendly face! People here are terrified of my blobiness.

(btw I am indeed friendly despite my deceptive facial features)

I don't care what anyone says. The GC till the very beginning of the wii, the wii lobby had the best posters on the web as far as a Nintendo board was concerned. Ever since Matt Cassimminee wrote that "Nintendo is lazy thread" that was the beginning of the end for the lobby as far as the quality posters (for the most part) were concerned. The rest of us that stayed defected to the CT wait for it to come back to life.

And it's tried, but it's just not the same. I wish all the people that left would post here instead of Negative World. But the ones who do come here from IGN now are all my own personal favorite posters. So that makes me happy.

Yeah, it's almost like Matt C. was trying to take down IGN with him when he wrote that.

Btw, anyone who wants to change the number of posts per page to something like 50 can do so in the user control panel.

I remember that mattavelle1, it was a sad time for me because although I was a lurker, I wasn't established in the community and didn't know where everyone went =(

This is a much safer place. I guard it from the trolls with my hideous blobby face. They can't handle this thing.

Jam I hope your right in keeping them away. I just like to post with good people with the same interest. Alittle difference in opinion is no problem. But constant trolling is.

OMG! I've been so pumped about the next series of Avatar the Last Airbender called Legend of Korra for a long time. Well, I just watched the first episodes and I must say, It's AWESOME!! I'm so excited.

Quick introduction: The original series of Avatar the Last Airbender is a TV show that I hold in the same regard as I do Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and my favorite video games. I felt it created such a fantastic world that was literally a blend of Eastern Martial Arts and religious themes (soul world, meditation, harmony and balance in the world, yin and yang, etc.) with elemental super powers, a Star-Wars-like breadth of the politics and shifting factions that are the influential forces in the world, plus great characters who are funny, complex, and captivating to follow their stories and conflicts. The animation is fluid, artistic, and inspiring. It's kind of like a mix between anime and Disney in terms of its animation style. When I look across media for the best fantasy or sci-fi universes in terms of characters, storyline, and the world setting -- it's right up there with the best of them in my opinion. (Yes, I know, the live-action movie by M. Night Shyamalan was just awful.)

So, after watching the original four seasons and seeing the saga come to an end I was sad to leave such a wonderful place. I wanted more. Luckily, a few years later they have begun this new series and I'm happy to say it's back to being awesome with tons of new elements that remind me of why it was so great in the first place but apparent that the creators are just as innovative and original as ever. Folks, I can't recommend it enough. Nothing beats Avatar the Last Airbender in my opinion.

[For Avatar veterans, some new additions introduced in this series are police who use metal bending to apprehend foes, Avatar Korra, who is arrogant and impulsive, a sport based on bending, steampunk elements, a really cool villain who is the founder of the anti-bending movement, and much improved visuals.]

Sadly true. I still try to stay active on the Wii lobby, but it's been somewhat taken over by a flush of new (or lapsed) members who seem mainly interested in dissecting Wii U power rumors. Perhaps that will change a bit once the thing finally launches.

"Menashe" wrote:

Yeah, the bridge wasn't burned as much as it was napalmed. From that point onward, there was an air of condescension in a portion of Nintendo coverage. I remember someone (I forget who) from IGN showed up in one of the lobby threads awhile back and said, in essence, "our office is completely not like that." It's a shame that the site output was, though.

I think my output in the Wii Lobby CT is going to slow down and instead my focus will be on this CT. Not that I've been posting much to the Wii Lobby CT lately. But, I'm going to be doing it more often here.

So, Menashe's plan to relax tonight? Check out an episode from each of these shows and see which ones are good:

Leverage
The Take
Southland
Boss
Awake
Downtown Abbey
Impractical Jokers
The Fades
Mind Control with Derren Brown
Gavin and Stacey

And of course, I have to finish watching the shows I've already begun this season.

The River
Person of Interest
The Mentalist
Revenge
New Girl
Justified
The Killing
Legend of Korra

Alright, I finally got around to watching Melancholia last night.

Holy eff.

I usually don't like arty movies that are labelled classics.
A Clockwork Orange? Meh.
Apocalypse Now? Double meh.
But this was something else.

I'll be interested to see what you think of it. I recommended it to a good friend, and she didn't like it at all (it was a reverse Xenoblade).

I'm surprised it got onto Netflix so quickly, and also so quietly.

Nik, old buddy! I was really worried. Nice to see you back. I was actually worried enough that I tried tracking down some phone numbers online that may or may not have belonged to some of your family members and tried to find out how you're doing. Derp: Your family members thought for sure I was a telemarketer trying to get you on the phone and they promptly hung up. "Hi, I live in the Middle East and worked on a website with your relative. I'm really worried about how he's doing. Can I speak to him?"

Luckily, Juegos saw you update your Facebook page so I was able to settle myself down. Whatever the case, I'm happy to see you back. I hope you stick around a bit.

There are all these Wii U controller analyses on the web examining the little mysterious boxes that showed up on the leaked pic of the controller. But, why don't any of them point out that Mario image on the screen of the controller? Why ignore the glaringly obvious bit and harp on those little boxes that are probably nothing important?

Sorry, everyone.

I'm the guy with the "wtf" look on his face on the right, haha.

Sorry for not posting more, it's difficult to keep up with several communities.

I'm now on the Radio Free Nintendo podcast, did you know? And I'm really only here to promote it. Not that I wasn't transparent in the first place, haha.

Any of you going to be at E3? Let's try and say hello, at least!

Hey Pandy, that's pretty cool that you joined Radio Free Nintendo. They're pretty high profile. I'll have to give it a listen. Maybe after the Nintendo Press Conference. It should be an exciting time then to discuss Nintendo games.

I moved this thread over to the Nintendo forum because that's probably what everyone is used to. The community forums can still be used to make separate off-topic threads.

Ah ha. Had me wondering for a moment.

So, I'll pose a similar question here to what I did over at IGN.

I'm house sitting for two weeks. With a psychotic cat. I can either sleep peacefully on the couch, or try to sleep comfortably on the bed (with the cat perhaps puking in my shoes or something). Thoughts?

Kill the cat. Or at least lock it up until the owners get back. They'll never know.

But, seriously, it probably comes down to personal preferences. I would never let a cat get near me while I slept. Then again, I'm a very light sleeper and I wouldn't sleep properly at all on a couch. So, it's a toughie.

I was put in a similar situation once - however, there were 2 psycho cats. What I did was, I slept in a bedroom with the door tightly shut and locked. One morning I woke up to find that one of the cats had indeed shat in one of the other bedrooms but that's a small price to pay for not getting shat on yourself!

If you are worried about personal possessions, might I suggest locking them in the bedroom with your person?

So. Is the cat actually psychotic?

One of mine kind of creeps me out. He just sort of stares with this piercing gaze, not moving and seemingly not blinking for hours. As I look back at him I sometimes get the impression that he is sometimes slowly moving closer. At night, I often feel like I'm being watched-- if I bother to look around a while I usually notice him staring at me from the shadows or some crazy position like the post of my stairs. If I make any move to shoo him away he moves a few feet out of range and continues.

One night he somehow opened the door to my bedroom. I awoke to the feeling of something slowly crawling along my body. My instinctual response to this was apparently to instantly spring up and attack the perceived aggressor-- luckily (?) he was able to escape before I sleep-mauled him. I felt sick for a while afterwards.
